Climate Art

Creaking, squeaking, crackling giant icecubes, strewn across the mainsquare was the scene Copenhageners woke up to the other day.

This was no freak weather phenomenen, but rather an artistic reminder to everyone attending the United Nations Climate Panel, currently being held here in Scandinavia.

World reknowned artist Olafur Eliasson and equally reknowned scientist Minik Rosing (check out the stunning documentary The Journey to the End of the World, wherein Minik featured!). Together they got the broght idea, to transport a 12 ton Iceberg Copenhagen, so people could experience climate change first-hand.

…..and what few people know is that the ice, created many thousands of years ago, has been so compacted under kilometers of ice, that when it melts it crfeaks and the air trapped inside “pop”s as they are released.

Best of all, the event gives us a chance, once again to feature our favourite Ice specialist, world reknowned nature photographer Carsten Egevang. http://bit.ly/1nThc4y
